Here in the Philippines, it is somewhat a must for students to pursue college especially when money is not an issue or perhaps for those who has scholarships and education plans. But why do we really need to go to college? Personally, I went to college to pursue my dreams. To be able to make a name, make my existence worthwhile and above all to be able to face my parents that I have done the biggest decisions in my life. It might have not been enough reasons for some but it is honestly mine. However, going to college is not just merely because of those reasons. It poses us huge benefits. Let us look into common reasons and benefits of going to college.
First reason is that college will enable us to earn more than just being content graduating from high school. This simple reason will make us the privileged ones because there are people who want to go to college but are not able to. Those people who earned a degree will, on the average, will earn two times compared to people who only have high school education. It boils down to how much you will earn when you are able to earn a degree.
Second reason is that college will allow us to develop our social skills. Since college is an individual world where you do things on your own, you will be able to communicate better and learn more effectively because you are taught how to be independent. In college, you rely on no one but yourself. It is also a very important stage where brilliant minds gather just to give you the best information you will essentially need when it will be your turn later on.
Third reason is that college will enable us to open many career doors or paths that otherwise would have not been opened if not for this opportunity. Earning a degree lifts you up and will help you stand out among the rest of the crowd especially when going for high paying job opportunities. Although it is also important to note that sometimes because of the world's on going crisis, a college degree is even hardly the minimum. In my experience, even if I had a degree and license to practice what I have graduated from, I still can't get anything higher than minimum.
The fourth reason is that college will give us the tools we need to achieve success in whatever career or path we take. Because of competition in the market world, sometimes higher education is a must in order for us to take on most high paying job opportunities. Certainly, a college degree will open more career opportunities for us that is almost impossible to have if we are only contented with finishing high school education. Personally, poverty is not a hindrance and I have always believed in that as much as I believed in it before.
